Southeast Asian Dragon Boat Festival, SEADBF, is a 501(c)3
The South East Asian Dragon Boat Festival (SEADBF) Organization seeks to imbue youth of Southeastern Asian descent with the values and skills necessary to be leaders in their respective communities. SEADBF was born from the vision of Mr. Song Phou. Born in Cambodia, but raised in South Philadelphia, Mr. Phou knows firsthand the plight of Philadelphia, a city so diverse yet entrenched in racism. From the race-motivated crimes and wrongdoings that appeared in the media almost daily, he saw that Philadelphia needed an organization to educate the public about the multitude of cultures of South East Asia through our three missions. SEADBF was founded for the purpose of creating opportunity, educating others about the cultures of Southeast Asia, and giving back through philanthropy. SEADBF’s mission to establish community awareness is furthered through events that both educate and entertain the Southeastern Asian community. This idea is reflected in our diverse board and affiliate groups. The organization hosts these events but, it would not be possible without the various donors that share our goals of creating a culture of Southeastern Asian-Americans that are more attuned to their often-neglected culture.

Cultural Heritage:

Dragon Boat racing has deep cultural roots in Southeast Asia, often associated with traditional festivals and ceremonies. Participating in these races provides a unique opportunity to engage with and appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the region.
Team Collaboration:

Dragon Boat racing is a team sport that requires strong collaboration among team members. 20 Paddlers must synchronize their movements, and the drummer and steersperson play crucial roles in maintaining coordination. This fosters a sense of unity and teamwork.
Inclusivity and Diversity:

Dragon Boat racing attracts participants from diverse backgrounds, promoting inclusivity. Teams often consist of individuals of various ages, genders, and skill levels. This diversity creates a vibrant and welcoming community where people can connect and learn from each other.
Physical Fitness:

The sport demands physical strength, endurance, and agility. Participants engage in a full-body workout while paddling, promoting fitness and well-being. It's an excellent way to stay active and healthy while enjoying the excitement of competition.
